O Katie Nakamura, Where Art Thou?

October 8, 2007 at 3:28 pm (Uncategorized)

Today’s Birmingham News carries a letter from Katie Nakamura in Homewood. You can click on the title link and scroll to the bottom to read the letter in its entirety (“Christians must support each other”).

I want here to call attention to her wisdom. She says, “We fail to examine our own motivations, so often filled with petty ambitions and defensiveness. We also fail to honor the good intent and prayerful decisions made by those who may disagree with us. We forget God’s goodness means much more than simply ‘correctness,’ and that Jesus was after much bigger things than righteous indignation.”

Amen, sister.

I Googled her and she was a music performance student at Northwestern. I was confirmed in the Episcopal church by Bishop Henry Parsley 9 years ago. Since then I have been to every denomination–including a conversion to Catholicism–but still hold the most affection for the EC.
